Greetings and Solidarity from Team Unite this Labour Day.
This year has been challenging in many ways. Now, more than ever, we need a strong, effective and united labour movement in Canada.
COVID-19 has highlighted the vital role all workers play in our economy and our society. Yet, as workers and their families are struggling with the impact of COVID-19 in their workplaces, schools and communities, they are also being let down and, in many cases attacked, by their governments.
At a time when we should all be working together to find a better way through the economic and social crisis brought on by this pandemic, funding for vital public services is being slashed, worker rights are under legislative attacks, and already precarious private sector jobs are increasingly at risk.
It is time for our movement to call for investment in people over profit, and to stand up to anti-worker employers and governments at every turn.
When workers stand together in solidarity, we win. We influence government action, engage workers to fight back, and bring positive change to our workplaces and communities. We win when we support each other in our fights at the bargaining table and on the picket line. And we win when we ensure all voices are heard.
Let’s celebrate this Labour Day with pride and a renewed commitment to the labour movement.
Happy Labour Day from Team Unite.
